circa 1860, with blued tapering 36in. barrel, short ribs at breech and signed 'METFORDS PATENT 239' and 'GEORGE GIBBS, 29 CORN STREET BRISTOL', stud at muzzle for false muzzle (absent), block mount for the adjustable tunnel fore-sight, no provision for rear-sight, colour hardened squared breech, engraved platinum plug, long top-tang with integral mount for vernier rear-sight (present), colour hardened bar action borderline engraved lock signed 'MANCHESTER ORDNANCE & RIFLE CO.', wheatsheaf trademark to tail, sliding safe forwards of the hammer, chequered walnut full pistol-grip half-stock, back position mount for the vernier sight at heel integral with the chequered iron heel-plate, moulded horn grip-cap, colour hardened trigger guard tang and bow, rounded horn fore-end cap and no provision for ramrod, the whole expertly re-coloured and reblued (blue fading)
